A specialty coffee brand built around weather as emotional metaphor — the moodiness of highland growing conditions translated into a full visual system.
Nubosidad Variable is a specialty coffee brand built around weather as emotional metaphor. Instead of the usual pastoral coffee imagery, the identity translates the variable cloud cover of Andean highlands into atmospheric gradients, precise typography, and a packaging system for three SKUs — filter, espresso, and cold brew. Each product corresponds to a different weather state, giving the brand a distinctive, internationally legible visual language rooted in something culturally specific.
The client needed a specialty coffee brand that could compete visually in an increasingly crowded premium segment without resorting to the usual pastoral aesthetics of Colombian coffee. The challenge: find a concept that was culturally specific and internationally legible at the same time.
Research into Andean growing conditions revealed the central role of variable cloud cover in the flavor profiles of high-altitude Colombian coffees. "Nubosidad variable" — the meteorological term for partial cloud cover — became both the name and the conceptual engine: weather as personality, climate as character.
The visual system is built around atmospheric abstraction: gradients that evoke altitude and humidity, typography that feels precise and scientific, color palettes that shift between the cool grays of morning mist and the warm ochres of afternoon sun. Each SKU corresponds to a different weather state.
The system includes primary identity (logo, typography, color), packaging for three SKUs (filter, espresso, cold brew), brand guidelines, and social media templates. Every visual element was developed through rigorous art direction, translating the atmospheric concept into a precise and consistent visual language.
The brand was completed as the first of a series of ten conceptual brand identity projects developed for the Behance portfolio rebuild. It established the art direction methodology that runs across the full series.
