Brand identity and packaging system for an urban gardening product line — color-coded fertilizers, plant care, and grow kits built for the first-time home farmer.
Biofert, operating under "The Urban Farmer" sub-brand, needed packaging for a full urban gardening line — organic fertilizers, liquid plant food, root booster granules, leaf care spray, and a seed starter kit. A clear color-coding system (green, orange, red, blue) lets first-time gardeners find the right product by color alone, while hand-illustrated garden scenes on each bag turn technical N-P-K data into something that feels alive. Eight products across five formats read as one confident brand.
Biofert, operating under "The Urban Farmer" sub-brand, needed packaging for a full urban gardening product line — organic fertilizers, liquid plant food, root booster granules, leaf care spray, and a seed starter kit. The brief called for a system that felt approachable to first-time growers without looking amateur next to established garden-center brands.
Research into the fertilizer aisle found a category split between clinical agricultural branding and overly rustic, hand-drawn packaging. The opportunity was a clear color-coding system — green for all-purpose, orange for vegetables, red for flowers, blue for soil — so a new gardener could find the right product by color alone, before reading a single word.
Each fertilizer bag carries a hand-illustrated garden scene across its lower half — vegetables, flowers, or soil cross-sections specific to that product — turning technical nutrient data (N-P-K ratios, displayed as simple colored dots) into something that feels alive rather than clinical. The vertical "Biofert" wordmark anchors every format, bags included.
The system spans eight products across five formats — stand-up fertilizer bags, a glass liquid-food bottle, a compost canister, a spray bottle, and a seed starter box — all sharing the same color logic, iconography, and benefit-led bullet system on the front panel, so the full range reads as one brand from across a garden center aisle.
The result is a packaging system that makes urban gardening feel approachable rather than technical — a color-coded, illustrated product line that guides a first-time grower to the right bag by instinct, and holds together as a confident, complete brand on the shelf.
